Mr. Sid's Lounge version 21
Yeah, that's right people...version 21. This site has been around since 1997... you know I'm gonna mess with it.
It's been quite sometime since my last post... I've had a lot going on and fill you in on my next post.
There may be some minor glitches around the site this week... but I think overall we're in good shape. Any weirdness will be corrected quickly.
Good night folks!
Tales from Rabbit Castle: Chapter 2
Around 9 in the evening Rory’s mood seemed to change. He would not eat, or hop about. He just sat there shaking with his eyes half closed. We thought it was perhaps nothing and it would pass. We were all up late and around 1:40 in the morning fear set in to our warren. Rory was most likely ill. He still would not eat or drink or hop. Even his mate Hunny couldn’t cheer him up.
After a phone call, I got them into their travel carrier and carefully placed them into the back seat of our car. Kristen sat with them and we drove up to the hold neighborhood and it’s emergency pet clinic.
The veterinarian was a pleasant older lady who was quite perplexed by Rory’s state. He seemed to be in good health. despite his temperature being 5 degrees lower than normal, he showed no signs of illness. We were sent outside to the waiting area. So I tried my best to comfort Hunny who probably had no idea what was happening except that her mate was still in the other room.
I’ll admit I was very worried, in fact scared that something terrible would happen at that moment. I couldn’t help but think of my first rabbit George, who at the age of almost 10 years old, showed the only signs of sickness in his life. It was a tragedy… within 48 hours of looking ill we had to put him down. My mind couldn’t help going back to that moment in time and thinking how unfair it would be this time, if that was indeed his fate tonight. We’ve only had these rabbits for 2 months.
Soon he was brought back to us and he sat safely in his carrier cuddling with Hunny. He had been given a shot of fluids… some vitamins, and something that would keep him hydrated as well as retain body heat. Soon after we were home and they were back in the safety of Rabbit Castle. And this is where this tale of late night apprehension ends. This morning at 7am I went to check up on them and all was well. The same silly hopping around when I brought out the bags of hay. The same bopping of my hands with their foreheads and noses.
So with that episode over, we are now preparing to meet our tax lady and deal with doing our share to bail out the country. Wish us luck!
Happy Republic Day India
Today is India’s 60th Republic Day commemorating the adoption of India’s constitution formally creating the world’s largest democracy. This has been a tough year for India with the effects of the world economic crisis and especially with the horrible terrorist attack on Mumbai. But India also sent it’s first spacecraft to the moon, won it’s first individual gold medal in the Olympics and a story by an Indian Author has been turned into most hyped movie around the world: “Slumdog Millionaire”.
Anyone who knows me, knows that I am extremely proud of my heritage. I truly believe that democracy is the next step in human evolution, and so proud of India for being the crazy, colorful, and diverse democracy that it is.
Jai Hind!
Day One!
Like every other blog on earth, I need to say something about today! 8 years of the worst government this nation has seen are over and today hope walked back into Washington DC. My friend Sha Sha dropped in this morning just in time to watch the inauguration with me, Rory, Hunny and Kristen. My life is great and I’m usually a happy guy, but to witness history in 42” of HD glory made me a little more optimistic than usual.
Anyway, here’s to the hard work and better days ahead.
YES WE CAN!
My Rabbits Have Their Own Website!
That's right! Rory and Hunny can now be seen at their very own blog: Rabbit Kastle dot com.
Drop by and check out the pictures of their silly antics.
=)
Happy New Year from Rabbit Castle!
Here we are folks…at the beginning of a new year. I for one am happy to get this year rolling. This year is already off to an awesome start – I finally built Rabbit Castle.
We adopted a bonded pair of rabbits named Rory and Hunny. They are about 4 and 5 years old. They are not just cute, but they have their distinct personality quirks. They are affectionate and quite independent. They’re already litter-box trained and miraculously don’t chew on computer and power cords.
I love these guys!
They are both mixed breed rabbits. We’re thinking Rory is possibly part or entirely Chinchilla or Giant Chinchilla rabbit. Hunny is most likely an English Spot mixed with a Himalayan. Regardless of what they are genetically, they are beautiful and sweet. It’s so much fun to see them running around our living room!
Cheers folks! Here’s to a great year.
Nutcracker '08
We survived the annual Nutcracker Ballet madness this year. Kristen’s students put on a great show again for the South San Francisco Civic Ballet. It was great seeing people I only get to see once or twice a year. The most unusual thing this year was the lack of crazy parents running around and wreaking havoc backstage, or during intermission.
I did my usual tasks: security, signing kids in and out, help setting up concession tables, and assisting in cleaning up after and moving a ton of stuff (literally). Years ago, I had done sound and lighting for the show but my old highschool now has updated equipment and two guys who are pro’s at all this stagecraft. These cats are smart, funny and were a blast to hang with.
Hey…my webhosts fixed everything they broke last week!
Now that we’re back to normal …I’m still thinking about redesigning parts of my site slowly. We’ll see how that pans out.
My younger brother is back in town for the week and it’s good to see him. I’m hoping to get some more speed paintigns done so hopefully I’ll have something new to show you after the new year kicks off.
See ya…
The War Room
So lately I’ve been on a personal mission to crank out as many speed paintings as I can. This last one was inspired by the film: Dr. Strangelove and took me about 4 hours from start to finish. I’m really proud of this one.
Mumbai Attacks & New Arts
I spent half of my Thanksgiving holiday watching the attacks on Mumbai unfold. I was sad for all the pointless loss of life but most of all I was ANGRY. Angry as hell for unheeded warnings, angry for defiling one of my favorite cities in the world, and angry that Pakistan refuses to keep these groups in check. Mumbai is a resilient city and will be to its vibrant self soon. Much respect to the security forces who took out those bastards and freed the hostages. And even more respect to those who fought for them and died.
Well, on a happier note I managed to do some more digital speed paintings:
Hail to the Chief!
A belated Happy Diwali to all. Yeah I know I’m a week late.
Tonight I am typing to you as Kristen and I are sipping 16 year old MacCallan scotch. I’ll admit that my eyes are filled with tears of joy.
To some, the unthinkable happened tonight. For me and many hopeful others, the next step in this country’s evolution happened – Barack Obama is the president elect! What this does to boost the self-esteem and level of dignity for all people of color… all people of the USA cannot even begin to be measured.
I look forward to a new and smarter foreign policy. For hopefully a new mindset of cooperation in domestic politics. I look forward to our soldiers leaving Iraq and dealing with those who actually attacked this nation 7 years ago.
Here’s a toast to better days ahead!
Happy Durga Puja and new art!
Well the Hindu festival of Durga Puja is winding down. It’s a particularly big deal for us Bengalis. The festival commemorates the victory of the Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishashura. This week I was inspired to create a stylized illustration of Her riding into battle. I don’t often work in this style and it was so much fun.
Also I’ve finally gotten around to uploading more art from this year: The 4 pieces I did for my gallery show as well as a portrait of my friend Julia.
Gandhi Jayanti 2008: and a return to my blog...
Today is of course the celebration of Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday as well as International Day of Non-Violence.
I left work early today because I’m starting to get sick. Anyhow as Gandhiji’s struggle to free India resulted in people of different ethnic groups, language groups, castes and religions come together, throw off the shackles of their colonial masters and form the world’s largest democracy. It leads me to tonight’s debate between Biden and Palin. Please, please, please America – don’t give us a McCain & Palin administration. I’m begging you… I want a leader who inspires the nation to realize it’s full potential rather than continue on this downward spiral we’re on.
So enough of the politics. Where have I been? Why haven’t I been blogging? Well a lot has happened this summer. We lost Gung Gung. I had a gallery show and it got extended. My father-in-law retired. My mom retired and went back to India. We moved.
Work has been nuts.
You know what else is going on? Facebook – that’s what’s for dinner. For the last 4 weeks or so I’ve had people from my past pop-up out of nowhere. Junior high, high school and even college. A lot of these people I have not seen in 20 years! Oh yeah, almost forgot…I turned 35 last month. Awesome! YES REALLY! Life is good.
Now we’re all about redecorating and furniture. Remember these words: Mid-Century Modern. Otherwise I’ve got some art in the works. Stay tuned for another update soon.
Till then – let’s think about living in peace.
