In October of 2020 I bought my first motorcycle, a 2021 Indian Scout.    It’s a cruiser bike and part of the cruiser bike ethos is customizing and personalizing your ride.   I’ve also decided to learn how to and perform as many of these modifications myself.    So I’ve been spending a lot of time on Reddit, forums, and YouTube,  doing research on mods, tools, how-to’s, and  more.   I’ve recently purchased a bunch of tools and I am excited to start making my Scout into My Scout!

First up, I started small.    The Scout comes stock with gigantic mirrors.   The are obviously very helpful, but riding up and down the hills of San Francisco they can also at times obscure my  vision.   So I ordered some Mini-Oval Mirrors from Arlen Ness after seeing them in a YouTube review video.     They’re small but very effective of showing me what’s behind me and on my sides.  Here are some before and after photos:

Completely stock.
With the new smaller Mini-Oval mirrors.

Next I ordered a small flyscreen from a UK based company after seeing  a fellow Indian Scout rider, indyscouter had equipped his bike with it.    The Marlin Flyscreen by Dart arrived pretty quickly after i ordered it.  Installation was pretty easy and only required the use of a small Allen key.    I watched an installation and review video from MotoCycle  and i was done in about 12 minutes or so in total.

I shot a really short video during installation and then went for a test ride.      I’ve also ridden on some of the Bay Area’s main freeways at 60-65 mph, and that little screen deflects quite a bit of wind away from my chest and up over my head.   Honestly speaking, I think large windshields make cruisers look lame, but if I had a touring bike for serious cross country riding it would be a must.

Here she is after these small upgrades:

Stay tuned for my next mods!
